Join us on Saturday 10th March (3pm-4pm) in the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, where we honour the recipients of the 2017 Anna Politkovskaya AwardGulalai Ismail and Gauri Lankesh, and pay special tribute to the brave Rohingya survivor Jamalida Begum.

Presentation of the Award:

  • Jude Kelly – Artistic Director of the Southbank centre and Founder of the WOW festival – introductory words
  • Elena Kudimova – Former journalist and Anna Politkovskaya’s sister – to give the award

Panel:

  • Baroness Helena Kennedy QC – Distinguished lawyer, human rights advocate, Labour member of the House of Lords – Chair
  • Gulalai Ismail (Pakistan) – Pashtun human rights activist, co founder of Aware Girls and the Youth Peace network and 2017 Anna Politkovskaya Award winner
  • Emma Hopkins, OBE – British Ambassador to Bulgaria, formerly leading the UK Government Initiative on Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict
  • Mariana Katzarova – International human rights advocate and activist, Founder, RAW in WAR and the Anna Politkovskaya Award
  • Leila Alikerami – International Iranian human rights lawyer and winner of 2009 Anna Politkovskya Award
