Working For: Reach All Women in WAR (RAW in WAR)

Location: London

Hours: 1 day/week (£80/day)

The Coordinator/Communications Assistant plays an essential role in the ‘day-to-day’ running of RAW in WAR, a small human rights charity striving to enhance the voices of women in areas of conflict.  This is an ideal opportunity for a candidate interested in the human rights field, and who wishes to gain experience and be part of a unique and exciting NGO. Although this is not a full time role, flexibility is required - especially in the run up to the Anna Politkovskaya Award where extra days of work (fully paid) will be required, including the occasional evenings and weekends.

Key duties include:

  • Working directly with board members on project related matters.
  • Managing RAW’s social media presence across multiple channels.
  • Drafting copy for blog posts, press releases, and newsletters.
  • Ensuring the smooth running of RAW’s website, and implementing the next phase of our website upgrade.
  • Coordinating RAW’s Anna Politkovskaya Award, held every October, and the organisation’s ‘Refusing To Be Silenced’ panel events.
  • Coordinating and supervising RAW’s team of volunteers.
  • Managing board and team meetings, and providing monthly progress reports on work and future actions.
  • Financial administrative assistance, fundraising and general administration.
  • Undertaking other ad-hoc tasks when required.

Essential skills, qualification and experience:

  • University degree in Human Rights, International Development, International Affairs, Gender Studies (or equivalent) and/or relevant practical work experience.
  • One year minimum of commitment to RAW (highly preferred).
  • Motivated and passionate about human rights - particularly the rights of women and girls.
  • Excellent writing skills (fluency in English).
  • Editing and proof-reading skills.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Experience of working in project administration and management.
  • Experience in organising events.
  • Experience in using social media for professional purposes.
  • Understanding of website administration (extremely desirable).
  • Additional languages (in particular, Arabic and/or Russian) particularly desirable.
  • Must be flexible, a positive self-starter, and willing to work as part of a team.
