|Happy Birthday, Razan! Free Razan Zaitouneh and her colleagues - THE DOUMA FOUR|
Today, 29th April, marks the birthday of Razan Zaitouneh - the third consecutive birthday she has spent in captivity. The 2011 Anna Politkovskaya Award winner was snatched from her office in Douma, a suburb of Damascus, in 2013. Together with her husband, Wa’el Hamada and two other activists, Samir Khalil and Nazem Hamadi, she was detained and abducted by armed men believed to be members of the so-called Army of Islam, which at that time had control over Douma. Since their abduction from the Violations Documentation Center (VDC) in Douma almost three years ago in December 2013, their condition and whereabouts have remained unknown.
We call on all those governments, world leaders and individuals who have influence over the situation in Syria, to do their utmost to ensure the safe, unconditional and immediate release of Razan, Wa’el, Samir and Nazem, known as the Douma 4!
To mark Razan's birthday and to renew calls for Razan and her colleagues' release, RAW in WAR joined today, 29 April 2016, the Gulf Centre for Human Rights, supported by many organisations around the world, in a Joint Statement. To help bring attention to their case, “we are hoping once again to shine a light on their disappearance,” says Rana Zaitouneh, Razan’s sister. On 30 April 2016, the family is hosting a vigil on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada, co-sponsored by Amnesty International Canada. They are also asking those who are unable to attend to post messages of solidarity, photos, artwork, or anything else that may spread awareness over the next week. For more information on the vigil, visit this Facebook page.

Join the call to help free the four human rights defenders, who were abducted in December 2013, and send messages of solidarity.
